Emerging Issue In Parenting Today

The advancements of technology have put Internet availability in almost every school and home.  This has put unlimited access to knowledge and resources at our fingertips, but it has also increased the risk of children being exposed to potential danger.  Today’s children are more knowledgeable and skilled on computers than their parents, giving the advantage over technology to the kids.  So how can parents protect their children and still give their children the benefits of the Internet?

A study published in the Journal of Technology in Human Services suggests that it is achievable with planning on the parent’s part.  Research indicated parents that are better-educated, use authoritative parenting style, more active in their children’s online activities, and have more discussions with their children about what they do and did online have less issues with online behavior.  The Internet can be a great tool for children, but it is full of dangers.  As parents it is important that parents be actively involved in what their children are doing online.  It is important that parents try to stay caught up about the advances in technology.
